Rick Smith and Karl Hyde, collectively known as Underworld, have been working together since the mid 80′s. Pioneering musically and questing lyrically, Underworld have forced the pace of electronic music since their groundbreaking first album Dubnobasswithmyheadman to their latest album, Barking. They have soundtracked summer after summer as festival headliners the world over; conducted sonic experiments for subterranean dancefloors and scored movies for directors Danny Boyle and the late Anthony Minghella. In the early 90′s Underworld co-founded the art / design collective Tomato, along with a group of like-minded artists including John Warwicker.
John has been working with Rick and Karl since 1983. First as video DJ and graphic artist in Freur, Rick and Karl’s band before Underworld and then in 1991 all three helped found the multi-disciplinary, multi-award winning design studio ‘tomato’ with Steve Baker, Dirk van Dooren, Simon Taylor and Graham Wood. Tomato has designed all of Underworld’s record sleeves, directed most of their videos and has contributed a vast catalogue of films for their live performances over the years. John has also worked with Rick and Karl (together and separately) on many other art projects, installations and publications
